Is your window sill is broken? Maybe hiring professional to fix it is the best way because the result will be better than you fix it by yourselves. Window sill replacement is not an easy job I think because it needs a kind of skill, carefulness, and accuracy. However, it doesn’t matter if you want to experience replacing window sill by yourselves. Because it is not easy, you’d better asked someone to help you as your assistance. In this article, I’ll try to explain briefly the way to replace window sill.
There are some tools should be prepared first to ease the window sill replacement. They are utility knife, reciprocating saw, table saw, circular saw, and impulse nailer. The first step is taking your utility knife and removing the exterior trim. To make it easier, the caulk around the outside and inside of the window are scored by using the utility knife. Be careful in doing this step to avoid damaging the trim because this trim will be reused. Secondly, by using reciprocating saw, take out the window with your assistance to make it safe especially if there is glass on the window. Then, separate the parts of the framing by using reciprocating saw again. After that, substitute the broken part of the window or the sill with the good one. Put it in the precise place and secure it by using nails. The next step is making kerf cut into the bottom of the wood sill by using table saw. The kerf cut makes the water, which drop on it, flows to the ground so that it will not damage the sill. Then, fix any holes and cracks because of the saw process. For the exposed wood, cover it with insulative paper to make it tidy. The last step is placing window back and use impulse nailer to secure it.
In order to make neater, fill up some holes of the nail with wood filler one by one and wait until dry. For the protection, you can use primer and paint in high-quality. That’s all about the steps of window sill replacement.
