Typically, the shut-off valve of the main water supply is located near the water meter, while the water heater valve is normally located near the water heater itself. After you ensure that both of them have been shuttled off, then you may start to begin the reparation. Remove the center plastic cap of the faucet handle using a knife. Then remove the screw on top of the handle and the cylindrical cover or escutcheon. To remove escutcheon, you need to rotate it counterclockwise. The stem sleeve which held it in place should also be removed. After that, use wrench to remove the packing nut that is at the end of the stem sleeve. You will find a washer and O-ring in packing nut; remove them to replace with the new one. Then take out the whole stem using pliers and screw the new stem washer onto the bottom of the stem. The last step, reassemble the faucet by following the procedures in reverse order.
