There are many kinds of countertop material available. It can be glass, wooden, metal, or ceramic. Every material has its own plus and minus. But, have you ever tried to install recycled paper countertops? You will have a great, antique look countertop by applying this. You can choose by your own the color, style, and thickness. Moreover, you can do it yourself at home.
In making the recycled paper countertops, there are some material you need, such as recycled paper, acrylic resin, paint, and varnish. First, you need to paint the countertop as a background color. You may choose whatever color you want, but it is better to choose one which suits with the overall decoration, so it will be harmonious. Then, by using a steel wool, rough the surface in order to make the acrylic resin stick well. After it, you need to cut the paper into smal pieces, like confetti and then scatter it on the countertop. How much the confetti you sprinkle becomes your personal preference. Then, pour the acrylic resin carefully so that the confetti is not washed away. But, before pouring the acrylic resin on the countertop, you need to install aluminium tape on its surrounding, from edge to edge, to avoid the resin dripping. Make sure that all confetti is covered perfectly. For the first coat, you just need to pour about a half of the thickness you want and the half more will be made after the first coat is dry thoroughly. If you find bubbles appear on the surface, blow them using straw to make the coat smooth. Then, pour the second coat as what you did for the first one. Remove the aluminium tape if you are sure that the resin is dry completely.
For the final touch, you can use wooden molding to be attached on the edge of the countertop using glue. Apply varnish to protect the resin and also the wooden edges. And, voila, your diy recycled paper countertop is completely done.
