A porch swing in your house can be a good place of retreat. It is appropriate for both kids and adults. Making your own wood porch swing is a good idea to save on money. So, instead of purchasing a high-priced porch swing that may not be of good quality, you can build one with a better quality. With the right tools and materials, a porch swing can be easily installed in your home.
The first thing you have to do to make a wood porch swing is cut your lumbers on a level surface. When cutting, determine the seat depth and back height that you want the swing to be and measure it on 2-by-4 studs and mark it with pencil. Cut six supports out of 2-by-4, three supports for the back of the swing and three for the seat. You need to give curves in the seat by cutting contours into the supports and rounding the back support using a jigsaw. The contours can be made depending on your need and taste. As long as all pieces are the same, the design is not important. Sand smooth each support using a sander and connect the seat and back support using two carriage bolts. Making your own porch swing is more interesting than purchasing because you can make it exactly the same as you want. You can determine the length you want the swing to be. Measure your planks using a tape measure and mark the length using a pencil. Cut the planks using a circular saw and the total number of them depends on the seat depth and back support height.
Keep in mind that you need to sand each side of your wood porch swing to make the surface smooth before painting. Prepare well your tools and materials to make a wood porch swing so that you can end up in your desire porch swing.
