Installing your own countertop can be an inexpensive decorating idea since how to install countertops are easy to learn and easy to do without having to have special skills. If you don’t know how to do and think that this is a difficult job, then you may need to rethink and try to do it yourself installing your countertops using some simple steps.
Before installing a new countertop, you have to remove some items including the old sink, drop-in stove-top, drawers and other fixtures. Trace the holds from the penetrations on a Kraft paper and cut the hole shapes so that you can use it later when you reinstall the fixtures. After that, remove the old countertop by unscrewing the screws from the mounting brackets. Usually, they are located on the corners and the top rails of the cabinets, above drawer slots and around the hole of the sink. Cut the caulk bead with utility knife and lift the cabinets. Now, you can start the step of how to install countertops. Make sure that the base cabinets are solid and level before installing new countertop. Lift the countertop in place and check the level of the counter top from end to end and front to back. If necessary, you can insert wood shims to fill any gaps between the tops and underside of the cabinet. After that, replace the screws in the mounting brackets.
If you drill holes for the screws, make sure that you don’t penetrate the counter space. Reinstall your original sink by measuring and marking the location and tracing the Kraft paper hole to the proper place. Cut the sink hole on the countertop using a jigsaw. So, use a sharp utility knife to score the cutout line and drill a pilot for the jigsaw blade. Now, you can install the sink and connect it to the water lines and apple a bead where the countertop meets the wall. How to install countertops can be a good and fun job as long as you have enough patience to do the installation.
