How to Install a Sink Drain - Finding a leak beneath your sink is not a good surprise. The cause can be caused by a bad seal of the strainer of the sink & the actual sink. Of course you will get your broken sink fixed right? You can try to get the nut which is holding together the pieces tightened. And if you find the leak is still going, then you will need to get the sink drain removed or replacing the entire assembly. Here below are the tips of how to install a new sink drain. Keep reading for the details.

1. Firstly, get the coupling nuts loosened up from the tailpiece’s top end and you can use pliers for this job. Then the nuts must be slide off from the threads and then the tailpiece must get removed from the strainer’s body of the sink at the top & the trap at bottom. The masking tape must be placed on the teeth of the pliers before used.

2. Next, you will need undoing the locknut, and you can use a spud wrench. If you find the locknut is too tight, then hammer should be used combined with a wooden dowel piece in order to get the locknut’s lugs gently tapped for loosening it.

3. Then next, the strainer assembly must get prevented from being rotated alongside with undoing the locknut by get the nose pliers inserted to the assembly for bracing it.

4. The sink assembly must be next removed. And then the old putty gets scraped on the opening of the drain using a putty knife, and don’t get the lip damaged.

5. Next, the new adhesive gasket which is bundled with the new sink must be attached or you can just simply get some plumber’s putty applied at the opening of the drain.

6. Finally, the new strainer can be put in the opening. The gasket, locknut, and friction from ring from under the sink must be attached. The locknut must be tightened and then the tailpiece must be reattached. If there any excess putty, get them removed.
