To crackle paint is something interesting since craquelure is such a classic finish that makes an exactly newly painted surface to have a crackled look. So, maybe you find the furniture that crackle naturally (mostly are vintage furniture), but what if you don’t own any old furniture but wanting this crackle look on your new furniture? Of course we need to get it crackled so we will get the look that we wanted. So, now the question will be: how to crackle paint? Is it hard or easy? In order to answer that question, let’s buckle up and roll folks!
This is the direction of how to crackle paint. The first move will be selecting two colors of paint for this mission. Why two? It is because you will need one color for the topcoat, and another one for the paint that will be shown through the cracks. Choose the colors that you prefer, make sure the colors will fit one another. Next, get a water based even coat applied to the furniture using a brush which is disposable. Get the brush washed with soap water alongside with waiting the primer to get dry. Then now, you can get the paint applied using the brush that has been cleaned.
Then get white glue diluted at 10 and 1 ratio. Then get 10 parts glue combined with one part of lukewarm water. Get the mixture applied to the surface. This is the way to create the crack looks. Leave the glue to get itself dry. Then after that you can get your topcoat applied. Then finish it with the shellac for protecting the crackled paint. If you find any difficulty, find someone with experiences for helping you. Or you can simply find any video that will describe the steps one by one.
