There are various types of materials which we can use for cabinetry. One of them is the Hickory wood. Oak/ teak face is widely used in contemporary styles, while cherry, maple, and pine are commonly used for traditional style. But nowadays, many cabinets are made from domestic woods and one of them is the hickory. There are always pros and cons about something, just the same with this hickory. So, in order to give you the clear image and information of this hickory wood, here below are the things related to it.
Now let’s see from the look. Hickory has strong grain which is stronger than the average woods have. Carefully picking it will give you the beautiful cabinet indeed. But if you fail to match the color, it will end up in spotty-appearance. So you have to be very careful in this stage/ step. Now what about its strength? If we talk about strength, hickory tops the other hardwood in the test for strength. It has high elasticity’s modulus which means you will need a big effort to get it bent. But since hickory is extremely hard, many manufacturers seem avoiding them, since they make the blade worn out faster and will affects the cost.
I can barely say that there is no other hardwood which will surpass hickory in term of hardness. All I can say is that hickory is the perfect material for making cabinetry. But the disadvantage is maybe the hardness of hickory itself. You will need extra effort to when you build your cabinetry using this type of wood. There is also another good material which you can go as maple. But like I have written above, no other wood surpasses hickory in term of strength and hardness. Good luck with your project folks.
